Chairman's Award

Overall Purpose
The Chairman's Award is the most highly esteemed award in FIRST Robotics. It honors a team that exemplifies the values of FIRST through interactions with other teams and the wider community. We apply for this award to show how we encourage today's youth to become leaders in STEM fields. The requirements for the Chairman's Award are:
  • Executive Summary
  • Essay
  • Video
  • Interview with Judges
Executive Summary
The Executive Summary is a series of short-answer questions in which we describe the influence of the FIRST program on our team and community. This section of the award submission also covers general information about the FIRST Lego League (FLL) and First Technical Challenge (FTC) teams we started in the past five years.
Essay
This is a 10,000 character essay where we delve deeper into the ways our team reaches out to FIRST teams and our community. We discuss the ways we assist other teams, our advocacy for women in STEM, and our participation in outside fundraisers including Relay for Life.
Video
In this short video, we show images of the various events we've attended and hosted over the past few years. This video will be shown to judges at competitions, as well as other teams if we win the Chairman's Award.
Interview with Judges
The interview is one of the most important parts of this process. We have 7 minutes to show the judges why we should win the award, followed by 5 minutes of answering questions from the judges. We divided our presentation into three parts - FIRST networking, integration of STEM to curriculum, and how we are role models - to provide a well-rounded description of our team.

FIRST Values

Gracious Professionalism®
This term, coined by Dr. Woodie Flowers, shows that FIRST teams are competitive and strive to win, but respect their competitors in the process. You should not throw or cheat in a match or fake being happy for the winners, but instead play fairly and be kind whether you win or lose.
Coopertition®
Coopertition is a combination of cooperation and competition. Similarly to Gracious Professionalism, this philosophy encourages teams to help others in the midst of competition. You should always try your best to win, but you should also assist others whenever possible.
FIRST Core Values
FIRST teams express the philosophies of Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition through these Core Values:
  • Discovery – Exploring new skills and ideas
  • Innovation – Using creativity and persistence to solve problems
  • Impact – Applying our skills to improve our world
  • Inclusion – Accepting everyone and embracing differences
  • Teamwork – Working cooperatively to reach new heights
  • Fun – Enjoying and celebrating what we do
Crevolution and FIRST Values
Our team strives to embody these philosophies and values throughout the season. Every year, we build a practice field and invite local teams to play with us. This allows our team to practice driving and get a better feel for the game while providing the opportunity to connect with other teams and let them do the same. Additionally, we send out a “Robo Rescue” team at competitions to assist other teams facing mechanical issues.
